Blu Homes Soups Up Greenfab Studio
Blu Homes Soups Up Greenfab Studio
by Susan DeFreitas, October 18th, 2010
“Custom home feel without the accompanying price tag.” That’s what green prefab company Blu Homes bills itself as offering, and now, with the newly redesigned Origin house, they’ve put the basic price of a modular green home–factory built, shipped, and assembled on-site–at $109,000.
The Origin was originally designed as a studio. Now, the architects at MK Designs have added the option for one or two bedrooms, a pitched roof and a deluxe kitchen–as well LED lighting and standard radiant floor heating, and even optional luxury accessories such as cedar sunshades, trellises, sliding door shades and a rooftop deck.

As a studio (starting at $82,000), the Origin is billed as “a perfect home addition, guest house or master bedroom.” As a home, it’s a small-is-beautiful type of house that comes in a variety of floorplans. You can also, apparently, combine more than one Origin for a bigger-is-better sort of green home, as well. More information is available online.
