Recently, the main steel structure of the Guangzhou New Gymnasium Project located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been topped out. The main hall of the gymnasium adopts a single-layer spherical reticulated shell structure with a span of 298 meters, making it the largest-span single-layer reticulated shell steel structure building in China. The total steel consumption is 32,000 tons, and it is expected to be officially put into use in 2027.

During the project construction, a number of technical problems were broken through: the construction process of "overall lifting + zonal unloading" was adopted, and the 18,000-ton roof reticulated shell was lifted to a height of 45 meters as a whole, with the lifting accuracy controlled within 3 millimeters. Through full-process digital twin technology, the structural stress and deformation during construction are monitored in real time to ensure the safety and stability of the long-span structure. The completion of this project marks that China's design and construction technology of long-span spatial structures has reached the international advanced level.

As an industry exhibition rooted in the Greater Bay Area, STEEL BUILD 2027 specially sets up a spatial structure achievement exhibition area, focusing on displaying benchmark spatial structure projects in the Greater Bay Area and across the country. In the same period, the project's chief engineer will be invited to share technical experience at the forum to promote industry technical exchanges.
