As the most high-profile future city project in the world, the core landmark of Saudi Arabia's NEOM New City – the world's largest-span suspended spatial steel structure stadium – recently completed its main steel structure hoisting, marking the project's entry into the final phase. The stadium has a total steel consumption of 87,000 tons, with a main span of 360 meters, adopting a single-layer double-curved spatial reticulated shell structure. It is currently the largest-span suspended steel structure building in the world, setting a new record in the field of long-span spatial structures.

The construction faced multiple technical challenges, including high temperatures in the desert, long-span deformation control, and high-precision assembly. The construction team adopted full-process BIM simulation for construction, completed more than 70% of on-site welding operations with welding robots, and controlled the assembly accuracy of components within 2 millimeters. At the same time, high-strength weathering steel was innovatively used, which can withstand high temperatures, sandstorms, and salt spray corrosion in desert areas, with a design service life of 100 years.

This project not only represents the top level of global spatial structure design and construction, but also drives the technological upgrading of high-end steel structure materials and intelligent construction equipment. As a benchmark exhibition for the steel structure industry in South China, STEEL BUILD 2027 gathers leading enterprises in long-span spatial structure design, construction, and materials. In the same period, it will also hold the Spatial Structure Technology Innovation Forum to deeply discuss cutting-edge technical directions such as super-long-span structures and special-shaped spatial structures.
